Farm stands, orchards and public gardens round out a trip to the garden center. Botanical and public gardens, arboretums and conservatories are good places to see which plants thrive locally, and community gardens rent plots and share tools and knowledge.

Houston is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Getting around Houston is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Texas's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Itβs beautiful. There are paths, lakes, and benches for resting, as well as restrooms. I found it easy to get to and park. Itβs a very family-friendly place. Lots of little animals along the way. Some parts were under maintenance, but otherwise, everything was fine.

A small Japanese garden in the middle of a bustling city, a place where one can return each season to witness the quiet changes of time. Sadly, it no longer seems to be as well cared for, so it is not as beautiful as the one in Seattle. There are fewer flowers left to admireβonly a sense of nostalgia remains, like a small garden preserved in memory.

Really peaceful spot to walk around and slow down a bit. The garden is well maintained with a nice pond, stones, and greenery that give it a very calm vibe. Itβs not big, but everything feels thoughtfully designed. Good place to just take a quiet walk or sit for a while. Definitely a nice change of pace from the usual busy spots.

I have not visited the gardens in well over 10 years, mainly because the last time I was there, it was kinda a letdown. But let me tell you what- WOW what a difference! The landscaping is breathtaking and you can see the Japanese influence while still honoring our natural (piney) landscape here in Houston. The grounds are meticulously kept and there are a multitude of paths to wander, benches to relax on, and stepping stones to explore. I was so pleasantly surprised about this hidden gem. I love my city.
